The Unexpected No
Nifemi A. 10th grade

Around three and a half years ago, my parents told us that we would be moving two hours away from where we'd been living all my life. At the time I was twelve years old and had just completed the sixth grade. That year that I had started middle school had lots of ups and downs such as me and my childhood best friend going to the same school for the first time and first encountering toxic friendships and bullying. When I first got the news of us moving I was very upset and didn't want to leave everything that I've known and was familiar with. I just had a big transition period due to me changing schools back then and didn't want to go through that again in a new place where I didn't know anyone. I was extremely disappointed but looking back I don't really understand why exactly I felt that way when I experienced falling out with a really close but toxic friend, bullying/teasing on how I looked, and being the farthest from God I've ever been. But I guess that's the strategy the Devil uses when he wants you stuck at a place you never intended for yourself and neither did God.
Once we moved things weren't easy at all. I remember going into the bathroom at school during lunch to cry because I didn't have any friends. I thought to myself 'Things were so much better there'. But If i'm being honest the truth is that I was uncomfortable with unfamiliarity and that blinded me to seeing the blessings God had in store for me in this new place. As time progressed I made new friends better than the ones I had before and loved my new school. I started playing sports I never thought I would do and met people that God placed in my life that I didn't even know I needed. Now I'm so so so very grateful the Lord moved us and for the relationship me and God have now due to the change.
