The Power of the Pivot

I like having a plan. Whether it's for school, soccer, or something at church, I usually have an idea of how I want my day to go. But I've learned that life doesn't always follow the schedule I make. Sometimes things change without warning, and I've had to learn how to adjust instead of getting frustrated.

One day that really taught me this was after a soccer game. The game ended later than expected, and by the time I got home, I was tired, hungry, and just wanted to go to bed. Then I remembered I still had a lot of homework to finish. For a few minutes, I honestly thought about leaving it until the next day because I was exhausted. But I knew I had responsibilities, so I took a short break, grabbed something to eat, and got started. It wasn't easy, and I stayed up later than I wanted to, but I finished all of my work before going to bed. The next morning, I was tired, but I also felt proud because I didn't let a change in my plans become an excuse to quit.

That experience made me realize that changing your plan doesn't mean you're failing. Sometimes you just have to adjust and keep moving forward. Since then, whenever something unexpected comes up, I try not to panic. Instead, I ask myself, "What's the next best thing I can do?" That mindset has helped me stay focused on my goals instead of stressing over everything that doesn't go perfectly.

It also taught me something about myself. I realized I'm more resilient than I thought. I don't have to have everything figured out, and I don't need every day to go perfectly. I just need to be willing to adapt and keep trying.

I also believe my faith has helped me see things differently. There are moments when I don't understand why my plans change, but I've learned that God can use those moments to teach me patience, discipline, and trust. Looking back, some of the changes that frustrated me the most ended up helping me grow.

To me, the power of the pivot isn't about giving up on your goals. It's about being flexible enough to adjust while still moving forward. Life will always throw unexpected moments our way, but those moments don't have to stop us. Sometimes they become the reason we become stronger than we were before.
